The Photo Story, Run

I always thought of running as something you do in order to get better at a real sport.  Recently, I have discovered that running can be fun in and of itself...well at least when you're around fun people.  Road Runner Sports Falls Church hosts an Adventure Run every month.  It is a light hearted running event that gets people out, and active, and excited about fitness.  The sense of community is what I think makes it special.  Lately, I have really enjoyed using my wide angle lens, and really getting up close to capture the dynamic spirit of what's going on.  Using my feet to zoom forces me to be physically engaged in the story I'm telling.  I hope this may inspire you to get out, and Run.

My Own Animals photo credit - Alyssa Lusby

Black and white photography has always had a transformative quality to me, one that is very impactful in a frozen moment.  The simplicity of light and dark tones focuses the attention, or allows for imagination.  Early this spring, I took Alyssa and Ian to the National Zoo.  It was a beautiful and warm day, but many of the animals were still inside from the winter so there wasn't much to see.  However, I was lucky enough to have My Own Animals.

The Photo Story, Not The Usual Story I've photographed hundreds of weddings, but never as a guest.  This winter I had a unique opportunity to attend the wedding of one of my best and oldest friends, Neil.  I considered leaving the camera at home, but this wedding was in Cancun, so naturally, I couldn't resist.  While I have shot the story of many weddings, this one was unique as I was shooting from the perspective of a participant with an intimate connection with many of the other guests.  I found that the story I captured was one that occurs at most weddings, but is seldom in the spotlight.  This wedding story is certainly Not The Usual Story.

The Photo Story, A Warm Winter Day

I've always felt that photos can tell a story in a very special way.  Each moment is frozen, allowing the viewer to experience something unique...the ability to go deeper into that fraction of a second, to feel it more, to analyze it more, to maybe understand it more.  When a group of images come together, I think it is very powerful.  I have started collecting images of everyday outings and putting them together as stories.  This speaks to me more than the average portrait session.  My goal is to capture more than what someone looks like, but a piece of them through those frozen moments.  Please enjoy my first story of this year, taken on A Warm Winter Day.
